Russia is reluctant to join the US-led Pacific and Indian Ocean axis. So Moscow has stayed away from the quadrilateral axis or ‘quad’ (India, America, Japan, Australia). However, diplomatic sources said that a new axis is being set for cooperation on trade and strategic aspects of the sea. India, Japan and Russia will meet in the near future. New Delhi is leading the whole thing. However, the discussion is more likely to be at the track-two stage first.
Russia's ally Russia is seen as part of India's special strategy. Speaking of the South Block, the Pacific and Indian Ocean region is an open, liberal, transparent and inclusive seaway. At the heart of it are the ASEAN member states. Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Sringla held talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov. India says Russia wants more co-operation on the sea, which is desirable. It is said that the interests of the two countries are involved here. Russia also benefits from increased peace, stability and economic prosperity in India and the Pacific. It is reported that Moscow has agreed to join the initiative.
